CFB 27 Opponent Tendency ScoutingThe best coaches in CFB 27 do not just play the game—they study it. Understanding opponent tendencies gives you a strategic advantage that talent alone cannot overcome. This guide covers the complete scouting process from pre-game film study to in-game pattern recognition.
Pre-Game ScoutingBefore every game, study your opponent statistical profile:
  • Run-Pass Ratio: Is your opponent run-heavy or pass-heavy? Adjust your defensive gameplan accordingly.
  • Formation Frequency: Which formations does your opponent use most? Prepare specific defensive calls for those formations.
  • Down and Distance Tendencies: What does your opponent call on third and medium? On second and long?
  • Red Zone Tendencies: Does your opponent get conservative or stay aggressive inside the 20?
  • Blitz Tendencies: How often does your opponent blitz? From which positions?
Identifying Play Calling PatternsMost players have tendencies they do not realize. Common patterns to identify:
  • First Down Runs: Many players run on first down 70%+ of the time. If you identify this, call run-stopping defenses on first down.
  • Formation Tendencies: Players often call the same few plays from specific formations. If you see the formation, you can predict the play.
  • Favorite Plays: Every player has 3-5 favorite plays they call in key situations. Identify these and be ready to defend them.
In-Game Pattern RecognitionScouting continues during the game. Track your opponent play calling:
  • What did they call on the previous third down?
  • Are they adjusting to your defensive calls?
  • Are they protecting a lead differently than playing from behind?
  • Who is their go-to receiver? Which route does he run most?
Counter-AdjustmentsOnce you have identified opponent tendencies, adjust your gameplan:
  • Run-heavy opponent: Load the box and force them to pass.
  • Blitz-heavy opponent: Use quick game and screens to neutralize pressure.
  • Man coverage heavy opponent: Use crossing routes and picks to create separation.
  • Zone coverage heavy opponent: Use flood concepts and seam routes.
