U4N Mythic Planning for D4: Which Uniques Should You Sacrifice

The Mythics 3.0 system has created a new layer of decision-making for D4 items in Season 14. Players can now use unwanted Unique gear to chase Mythics through the Horadric Cube, but the process is not a direct upgrade. Instead, the system gives you a random Mythic from the same equipment slot, meaning the Unique you sacrifice is permanently destroyed.

That makes careful planning essential when managing D4 items. A powerful Unique that currently supports your build should never be considered crafting material just because you want a Mythic. The safer approach, as many experienced players and the U4N community have pointed out, is to keep your best gear and sacrifice only unwanted items that you can easily replace.

Why Your Best Gear Should Stay Equipped

The Horadric Cube recipe can be misleading if you do not understand exactly how it works. Putting a Unique ring into the recipe does not turn that specific ring into a Mythic. The ring disappears, and you receive a random Mythic that belongs to the ring slot.

The same rule applies to weapons, helmets, chest armor, and other equipment. A three-GA Unique that took days to find can disappear without giving you the Mythic you were hoping for.

Because of this, the crafting system rewards players who separate their valuable gear from their crafting stockpile. Keep your best items for your character and use low-value 850 Item Power Ancestral Uniques for Cube attempts.

Start With Universal Mythic Targets

Harlequin Crest is one of the most obvious targets for players who want a broadly useful Mythic. The helmet offers a substantial boost to all skills along with valuable cooldown and resource benefits. It can fit into many different builds, making the helmet slot a strong choice for a first crafting target.

Ring of Starless Skies is another excellent option. Its resource reduction and scaling potential make it attractive for many endgame setups. If your build frequently runs out of resources, this Mythic can have a noticeable effect on how smoothly your character plays.

Both targets have one major advantage: they are useful beyond a very narrow build. That makes the gamble more worthwhile because a successful roll is more likely to improve your overall character.

Choosing Between Damage and Defense

The Grandfather is particularly appealing to Barbarians and Necromancers that can use the two-handed sword slot. It provides significant offensive power and can become a major part of a high-damage setup.

However, players should not automatically prioritize damage. Melted Heart of Selig can be a better choice for characters that already have enough offensive power but struggle with survivability.

Selig is especially interesting for defensive Barbarians and other high-defense builds. If your main problem is surviving powerful attacks, a Mythic that improves durability may be more valuable than one that simply increases your damage numbers.

Why Tyrael's Might Is Worth Considering

Tyrael's Might occupies another valuable position in the Mythic crafting discussion. The chest armor provides strong defensive benefits, including damage reduction and resistance advantages.

For many endgame characters, this can reduce the amount of defensive investment needed elsewhere. Your Paragon choices and other equipment slots may become more flexible once the chest piece handles some of those defensive requirements.

The best choice ultimately depends on how your character is built. If you are pushing difficult content, defensive value may be more important than speed. If you are farming easier activities, an offensive or resource-focused Mythic could provide better results.

Building Your Crafting Inventory

Once you decide which slot to target, start collecting unwanted Uniques for that specific slot. Players hunting Ring of Starless Skies should save bad Unique rings. Those targeting Harlequin Crest should collect poor Unique helmets instead.

Pandemonium Fragments are also necessary, so farming them should become part of your regular routine. The Corrupted Reaper in Zarbinzet is an important source and can help you build up the materials required for repeated attempts.

When you are ready, place the junk Unique and five Pandemonium Fragments into the Horadric Cube. The result is still random, but at least you have protected the gear that your character actually needs.

Do Not Stop After One Craft

A successful crafted Mythic can help carry your build, but it does not mean your farming journey is over. Naturally dropped Mythics do not have the same crafted restriction, so finding additional Mythics in the world can eventually give you more freedom with your equipment choices.

If you are short on time and want to focus on crafting rather than extended farming sessions, some players may consider ways to obtain cheap Diablo 4 materials so they can spend more time testing builds and less time collecting every required resource.

The most important part of Mythic crafting is understanding what the Cube does before using it. It is not an upgrade button for your favorite Unique. It is a slot-based gamble that destroys the item you put inside. Once you accept that, the strategy becomes much clearer: protect your best gear, collect disposable Uniques, choose your target slot carefully, and spend your Pandemonium Fragments with a clear purpose.
